US Managed Care is a health care delivery system organized and intended to manage cost, utilization, and quality and yet fails to do so on all fronts. This is not the direction we want our Australian Healthcare System to follow.

The 2020 OECD report includes statistics from 36 countries. And it revealed some alarming facts. Health spending in the USA per capita is one of the highest. However, life expectancy in the USA falls well short of most other developed countries even though the average health spending per person per year in the USA in 2020 was the highest at $10,948.50 compare this to $4,919.2 in Australia.

This equates to an average cost in the USA of approximately 16.8% of GDP. Meanwhile, in Australia our system costs us about 9.4% of GDP. The average cost of a hospital stay in the US is $11,700 per night…
